3 stars for story - 4 stars for J.R. Ward's writing. As this is already set in the familiar world of Caldwell, NY (from the BDB series), there wasn't much world building to do. The characters were definitely interesting, and there was some interesting setup for future paranormal goodness... but it was a little weak compared to what I'm used to from JRW. Definitely has potential, though.
